KG-3X

The KG-3X Crypto Modernization program is designed to provide the U.S. military with assured, survivable, protected and reliable strategic communications for airborne portions of the U.S. Air Force and Navy Minimum Essential Emergency Communications Network (MEECN) and the U.S. Navy Fixed Submarine Broadcast System (FSBS). Rockwell Collins has been selected by the U.S. Air Force's Electronic Systems Center for Phases II, III and IV of the KG-3X program, taking the program from system design completion through low-rate initial production, to full-rate production and deployment. We have been involved in the MEECN program since its inception and continue to provide key portions of the network for the U.S. military, including work on the Ground Element Minimum Essential Emergency Communications Network System (GEMS) program.

The KG-3X is based on an open and flexible architecture, providing the ability to implement future cryptographic modernization initiatives with minimal changes. The new KG-3X unit will be used in the MEECN and Fixed Submarine Broadcast System (FSBS) for strategic transmission of Emergency Action Messages (EAM) and is the replacement for the following Communications Security (COMSEC) devices: KG-33 transmitter, KG-34 transmitter, KGV-61 and KGV-61A receivers.  This program will result in supportable modernized End Cryptographic Units (ECUs) for the Very Low Frequency/Low Frequency (VLF/LF) MEECN and VLF/LF FSBS to transmit and receive systems onboard the B-52, E-4B and E-6B aircraft, as well as associated ship tenders, Broadcast Key Ground Sites and On the Air Monitor (OTAM) sites.  Please contact Rockwell Collins for more information.
