Rockwell Collins is a recognized leader in the development and production of Head Down Displays (HDD) for fixed and rotary
wing aircraft. Our Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) products include full color multi-function HDDs ranging from
3- x 3-inches to 8- x 8-inches in size.
The AMLCD features full color graphics video with high brightness/contrast for sunlight readability and night vision compatibility.
It also incorporates industrial grade, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and designs wherever possible to achieve
affordable solutions for military applications while maintaining high performance and reliability. Our AMLCDs are designed
for both commercial and military cockpit applications.
Rotary Wing HDD
Rockwell Collins provides multi-function head down displays for several rotary wing aircraft. Among them are the Sikorsky
S-92, MH-60 Black Hawk, MH-47 and CH-47 Chinook, AH-1 Cobra, HH-60J Seahawk, and most recently, the U.S. Army's new Armed
Reconnaissance Helicopter. We have also collaborated with Sikorsky Aircraft to provide open architecture multi-function displays
(MFD) for the UH-60M Black Hawk, which contain common modules to support future growth to larger display sizes. MFDs increase
pilot situational awareness and enhance crew effectiveness by presenting flight instrumentation and navigation information,
as well as improved targeting and threat avoidance information from onboard sensors and datalinks.
Fixed Wing Fighter/Attack HDD
Rockwell Collins produces head down displays (HDDs) for a number of platforms including the F-15, F-18, F-22A Raptor and Mirage.
Rockwell Collins' display system products include full color multi-function HDDs ranging from 3- x 4-inches to 8- x 8-inches
in size. Our development and production of color Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (AMLCD) continues our tradition of
providing reliable avionics displays with excellent sunlight readability for fixed wing fighters. Rockwell Collins' AMLCDs
offer a wide family of display products and the commonality of design extends throughout the display architecture to permit
schedule risk reduction and incorporation of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and designs wherever possible.
Tanker/Transport HDD
Rockwell Collins provides multi-function head down display systems for several tanker/transport aircraft applications, including
the U.S. Air Force KC-135 GATM program and the C-130 Avionics Modernization Program (AMP). Rockwell Collins' development of
the 6- x 8-inch Multi-Function Display (MFD)-268 family, specifically designed for the C-130 application, brings expanded
utility and capability to the cockpit. This display has been selected for multiple international C-130 fleets, including solutions
used in the modernization of the Canadian, Greek, Jordanian and Australian C-130 avionics.
