Emirates selects Rockwell Collins MultiScan, avionics for Boeing 777s

DUBAI (November 12, 2007) - Emirates Airline has selected Rockwell Collins to provide its MultiScan Hazard Detection™ System among a broad range of avionics for 47 of its Boeing 777 aircraft. The agreement also calls for an option on 12 additional aircraft. Deliveries began in August.

"Emirates joins more than 100 airlines worldwide who have selected the proven capabilities of MultiScan for their aircraft," said Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager of Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins. "MultiScan continues to be a differentiator when it comes to enabling safer, smoother and more efficient flights."

Rockwell Collins' award-winning WXR-2100 MultiScan Hazard Detection System is the first and only radar that analyzes and determines actual weather hazards, not simply atmospheric moisture content. MultiScan is a fully automatic, hands-free airborne radar system with more than four years of operational experience that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters, and provides optimal clutter-free weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.

Emirates also selected the Rockwell Collins GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), an integrated unit that provides the aircraft's primary position, velocity and time reference and enables precision landing capability. The advanced MMR also offers instrument landing system capability and high-integrity, satellite-based positioning for navigation and future landing functions. The system is designed to meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet types.

Other Rockwell Collins equipment chosen by Emirates Airline includes the ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900D High Frequency System, CPL-920D Coupling Unit and the VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio.

Based in Dubai, Emirates is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. It currently operates 110 wide-bodied aircraft, including 11 freighters, to 96 cities in 60 countries. This year it has launched services to Venice, Sao Paulo, Newcastle, Toronto and Ahmedabad, and will soon add Houston to its global network.
