American Trans Air Orders Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HGS® 4000 Head-up Guidance System for Boeing 737, 757 Aircraft

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 06, 2001) - American Trans Air (ATA) of Indianapolis, Indiana, has ordered the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HGS® 4000 Head-up Guidance System for installation on its Boeing 737-700 and 757-200 aircraft. ATA is the first airline to order the Flight Dynamics HGS® for the B757.

The HGS® 4000, Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics’ most advanced product, presents critical flight symbology and guidance on a head-up display. The system will be certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration for installation on the ATA fleet under a supplemental type certificate held by Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics.

ATA Director of Flight Standards and Training, Captain John Graber said, "The HGS® 4000 will boost the situational awareness of our pilots while improving the low-visibility capability of our aircraft. In particular, ATA is planning to use HGS® to achieve a substantial reduction in operating minima at Midway Airport in Chicago. We expect to see great benefits from our HGS® program there."

Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics, Portland, Ore., has orders for more than 1,200 HGS® systems, with more than 400 options and follow-on orders expected to be exercised in the next few years. The system has accumulated over six million flight hours in revenue service.

Rockwell Collins, with headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, designs, produces, markets and supports communication and aviation electronics for commercial, military and government customers. The business employs approximately 17,500 people worldwide.
