Bombardier and Rockwell Collins Agree to Develop Cabin Electronics Solution for Global 5000

ORLANDO (September 10, 2002) - Bombardier Aerospace and Rockwell Collins have agreed to develop the integrated cabin electronics solution for the Global 5000™ intercontinental business jet. The announcement was made at the National Business Aviation Association annual conference and exhibition.

Rockwell Collins' new Airshow 21 cabin electronics system offers the Global 5000 an advanced systems architecture that can support a complete line of cabin electronics centered on an operator's specific requirements. The system features a redundant communications backbone, maximizing system availability while providing digital distribution of information and allowing for easy installation of future upgrades.

Collins Airshow 21 will allow Global 5000 passengers and crew to control nearly all aspects of the cabin environment. Advanced functionality includes the latest in real-time business connectivity, information, entertainment and cabin management capabilities.

The Airshow 21 system offers a complete "global office," providing Global 5000 passengers the same capabilities in the air that they enjoy on the ground. The system's Ethernet-based local area network (LAN) provides multiple users with "off-board" data connectivity, as well as access to printers, fax machines and shared files. The system can be enhanced through the addition of a wireless LAN permitting users to maintain network connectivity while moving about the Global 5000 cabin. When including the Collins SAT-906, secure voice and data communications are available anywhere in the world. By adding the Collins HST-900 High Speed Transceiver, passengers can also access the Internet and corporate e-mail accounts.

Airshow 21's entertainment features allow passengers to select and control multiple sources, including numerous VCRs, DVD players, satellite TV and multi-disc CD changers. The system also supports advanced capabilities such as audio/video-on-demand. Collins Airshow 21 integrates entertainment content from a variety of sources, including the Collins Airshow Network and satellite TV systems. As AVOD becomes available, digital movie and audio content, tailored to meet passenger's requirements, will also be provided.

Collins Airshow 21 will also allow Global 5000 passengers and crew to manage the various environmental systems in the cabin, galley and lavatory, including temperature, lighting, water and waste systems. A centralized maintenance function collects and processes diagnostic data to facilitate simple, minimally invasive service and maintenance.
