Vietnam Airlines Selects Rockwell Collins Avionics and IFE for New Boeing 777 Deliveries; Rockwell Collins Offers Flight Deck
and Cabin-based Solutions
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (September 24, 2002) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL), a global leader in aviation electronics and communications, has been selected by Vietnam Airlines
to provide avionics and in-flight entertainment (IFE) for six Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled from mid-2003
through 2005.
Installation of the Rockwell Collins equipment on the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft will be Vietnam Airlines' first application
of Rockwell Collins' avionics and Total Entertainment System (TES ), which features in-seat audio/video on demand (AVOD).
"We were selected as the avionics and IFE supplier based on our unique ability to provide both flight deck and cabin-based
solutions," said Steve Belland, vice president, marketing and strategic management, for Rockwell Collins Commercial Systems.
Rockwell Collins is providing an integrated communication, navigation and surveillance sensor package, including the Collins
MultiScan™ Weather Radar, multimode receiver, traffic alert and collision avoidance system and SATCOM.
The Collins WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar enhances safety by reducing the need for manual intervention. The automatic performance
of radar scan patterns using multiple tilt angles and advanced data processing reduces pilot workload and provides more complete
information for weather hazard avoidance. The MultiScan radar optimizes short- and long-range weather detection at all times
without requiring pilot adjustment of the radar tilt, and alerts flight crews during takeoff and approach of potentially dangerous
windshear.
Vietnam Airlines has selected two IFE configurations for their fleet. Two aircraft, with a three-class international cabin
configuration, will feature TES AVOD functionality and telephones for both business and deluxe economy-class passengers, offering
10.4-inch in-seat LCD displays. Throughout the rest of the cabin, digital overhead video will be available on 15-inch and
10.4-inch LCD displays. The two-class regional cabin configuration provides passengers in business class with AVOD functionality
using a 10.4-inch in-seat LCD display. The economy class section will be outfitted with digital broadcast overhead video and
audio capabilities.
