Rockwell Collins and Kaleidescape announce integrated entertainment interface
ATLANTA (September 24, 2007) - Rockwell Collins and Kaleidescape® announced they have developed a video and control interface that integrates Rockwell Collins
cabin management system with the Kaleidescape entertainment server.
Kaleidescape allows the storage of DVDs and CDs on an array of fail-safe hard disk drives, and allows the automatic viewing
and organization of music and movie collections. The system is proven in the home entertainment market, and now has the capability
to be integrated with Rockwell Collins business jet cabin management systems.
"The successful integration of our cabin management system with the Kaleidescape system is another example of Rockwell Collins'
mirroring the home entertainment environment for business jet passengers," said Tommy Dodson, vice president and general manager,
Cabin Systems for Rockwell Collins.
"Many of our customers who have Kaleidescape systems in their homes are anxious to have the same entertainment experience
available in their aircraft. This integration with the Rockwell Collins' cabin management system is a big step in that direction,"
said Michael Malcolm, founder and CEO of Kaleidescape, Inc.
The control interface features a 10.6" touch screen display, providing complete access to all Kaleidescape control functions.
The controller offers picture-in-picture and preview capabilities, as well as the ability to view Kaleidescape content full
screen. The video output from the Kaleidescape system is directly connected to the cabin system distribution system for viewing
on any seat or bulkhead display, with audio available on cabin headsets and speakers.
Kaleidescape has redefined home entertainment by transforming the way movies and music are collected, managed and enjoyed
throughout the home. The system combines a compelling interface, outstanding industrial design, and services that set new
standards in the consumer electronics industry. Kaleidescape was founded in 2001 and is privately held. The company is headquartered
in Mountain View, Calif. with research and development conducted by Kaleidescape Canada, Inc., based in Waterloo, Ontario.
