Rockwell Collins introduces Software Programmable Switch Panels for Cabin Management Systems
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (September 13, 2007) - Rockwell Collins today announced a new line of Software Programmable Switch Panels that will provide business jet passengers
more user-friendly control over their cabin environment, while giving aircraft manufacturers an efficient, standard part that
serves many applications. The new line of Switch Panels will be available in summer of 2008.
Rockwell Collins' Software Programmable Switch Panels offer an icon-based means for business jet passengers to access and
control a full range of cabin amenities and services. The Switch Panels provide passengers with complete control over all
available cabin and entertainment features, and when accompanied by Rockwell Collins' Media Center Device with Moving Map,
offer integrated real-time flight information, such as Time to Destination and Ground Speed. Passengers can also receive flight
status updates through a full color, OLED display with a high contrast ratio and wide viewing angle.
"The Software Programmable Switch Panels are designed to provide an exceptional user experience by creating a cabin environment
directly suited to the passengers' needs," said Tommy Dodson, vice president and general manager, Cabin Systems for Rockwell
Collins. "This approach - which provides an unprecedented combination of user-friendliness and advanced capabilities - transforms
flight time into a personalized event."
The Software Programmable Switch Panels also provide cabin environmental settings, entertainment source control and audio/video
source selection, including Media Center Devices, DVD Players, XM Radio Receivers, satellite TV, cameras and a variety of
carry-on devices through auxiliary ports.
Rockwell Collins is also developing an intuitive, easy to use configuration tool for customizing the Programmable Switch Panels
as part of a total aircraft interior specification. The tool will utilize a library of templates for standard aircraft configurations,
as well as an easy way to make custom configurations.
