Rockwell Collins receives highest mark for integrated processes
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 09, 2006) - Rockwell Collins Government Systems has been recognized by cognence, inc. for achieving Level 5 maturity in accordance with
the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). The CMMI Level 5 rating is the highest
possible benchmark for commercial and defense industry best practices in management and engineering.
Government Systems achieved CMMI Level 5 capability for its Richardson, Texas and Cedar Rapids locations in 2004. The most
recent appraisal, which was completed last month, was extended to include the San Jose, Calif. operations.
"Our customers use CMMI as the benchmark for measuring design and development performance and the quality of their suppliers.
Maintaining our Level 5 capability is critical to our competitive position in the marketplace," said Rich Eisenhart, vice
president of Engineering for Rockwell Collins Government Systems. "Level 5 confirms that Rockwell Collins has established
and implemented well-defined and effective integrated engineering and management processes optimized to provide quality, best-value
solutions for our customers."
Engineering organizations at Rockwell Collins facilities in Cedar Rapids, Richardson, and San Jose were evaluated for conformance
to the Process Areas prescribed by CMMI Level 5, using the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI)
approach. The evaluation was conducted by an independent team from cognence, Inc., Denver, Colo.
The SEI developed CMMI to enable the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to more readily and objectively assess the full range
of capabilities of its industry participants. It is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the DoD
and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. The CMMI model provides a framework for improving the processes that organizations
use to develop and deliver products for customers.
