Rockwell Collins’ interactive map flies high aboard the Global 5000
LAS VEGAS (October 11, 2004) - Today at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), Rockwell Collins announced that its new Airshow interactive moving
map has been selected by Bombardier Aerospace as a standard option aboard its new high-speed Bombardier Global 5000 business
jet.
The new Airshow interactive map and flight information product is an integral component of the Airshow 21 cabin electronic
system installed on each Bombardier Global 5000. The Ethernet-based Airshow 21 is an advanced system architecture that supports
a full suite of functions on the Bomabardier Global 5000, from entertainment and cabin controls, to global office connectivity.
All cabin capabilities are controlled on-board with an innovative, full function graphical user interface (GUI) also designed
by Rockwell Collins. The Bombardier Global 5000 is the only business jet featuring the new Airshow system. Aircraft deliveries
are scheduled to begin in early 2005.
The new Airshow interactive moving map and flight information product is a software application that runs on-board the Bomabardier
Global 5000 server. It uses patented Airshow map technology to portray a variety of maps in multiple resolutions, overlaid
with flight-relevant information such as time to destination, local weather, etc. The product allows each passenger on board
the Global 5000 to view maps, flight information, news, sports, financials and weather information at their own pace, in their
own seat. This approach is unique from traditional video broadcast systems, such as Rockwell Collins’ Airshow 4000, and is
made possible by using an Ethernet LAN and HTML browsers to facilitate distribution of interactive functionality directly
to each seat.
The Bombardier Global 5000’s interactive map captures real-time flight information from the aircraft’s flight management computer
and long-range navigation system. It also connects to the on-board communication system to retrieve Airshow Network content
from a variety of service providers managed by Rockwell Collins, including BBC, Wall Street Journal, CNN, SportsTicker, Bloomberg,
and Intellicast.
The Ethernet-based Airshow 21 system and the new interactive map will be on display in the Rockwell Collins booth (#12519)
and on the Bombardier Global 5000 demonstrator located at the NBAA 2004 Static Display at Henderson Executive Airport, a short
distance from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
