Rockwell Collins demonstrates Advanced Tactical Networking Technologies.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (July 01, 2004) - Rockwell Collins recently completed a successful field demonstration of Multifunctional On-the-Move Secure Adaptive Integrated
Communications (MOSAIC) technologies. The demonstration, conducted for the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM)
Research, Development and Engineering Center’s (CERDEC) Space & Terrestrial Communications Directorate, took place on June
2 and 3 at the Army’s Mobility Assessment Test and Integration Center in New Mexico.
“This demonstration further illustrates Rockwell Collins’ capabilities for delivering advanced networking technologies for
the next generation Tactical Internet and Global Information Grid,” said Bruce King, vice president and general manager of
Communications Systems for Rockwell Collins. “Working with CERDEC, Rockwell Collins has developed Dynamic and Adaptive End-to-End
Quality of Service (QoS) protocols that support mobile as well as heterogeneous networks for the tactical battlefield. We’re

The June demonstration showcased Rockwell Collins’ Advantaged Node solution which provides assured connectivity to isolated
node partitions that otherwise would not be able to communicate with each other. Also demonstrated were Rockwell Collins’
self organizing and adaptive networking protocols and the ability to interoperate with commercial routers and Department of
Defense (DoD) legacy communication links. The demonstration consisted of a network with diverse link types including an ad-hoc
mobile wideband network with ground-to- ground and ground-to-air links, commercial wireless LAN links and military satellite
links.
The MOSAIC’s Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) is a major research and development program within CERDEC that is developing
and demonstrating both a mobile networking architecture and the underlying advanced networking technologies that will enable
military communications in support of a mobile, geographically dispersed battle-force for the Future Combat System and the
Future Force without dependence on a fixed communications infrastructure. The MOSAIC ATD program is focused on three technology
areas: QoS techniques, adaptive networking protocols to support infrastructureless mobility and seamless integration of commercial
and DoD wireless technologies. Combining the aforementioned focus areas provides on-the-move maneuver network communication
technologies to support the Future Combat System & Future Force.
