Rockwell Collins TESTM AVOD Lands on LanChile Airlines
IRVINE, Calif. (September 04, 2001) - Rockwell Collins has successfully completed the first flights of two full shipsets of TESTM(Total Entertainment System) equipped LanChile Airbus A340 aircraft. LanChile will outfit five additional Airbus A340 and
up to seven Boeing 767 aircraft with the fully interactive TESTM system, with an option to install on an additional seven Airbus A340 aircraft.
LanChile is the first airline to offer Rockwell Collins’ TESTM audio/video on demand (AVOD) throughout the entire aircraft. Installed during production, each seat is configured with TESTM AVOD capability. The system features a 6.4-inch seatback-installed liquid crystal display (LCD) for Economy Class, along
with 8.4-inch in-arm displays in First and Business Class operated by the passenger via touch-screen. LanChile is offering
all classes of passengers a choice of movies, audio CDs, games and movie/television shorts.
“The TESTM AVOD system has been an outstanding success for Rockwell Collins and we are pleased to continue our strong presence in Latin
America,” said Graham Macdonald, vice president of marketing and strategic management, Rockwell Collins Passenger Systems.
“TESTM AVOD has been an excellent addition to our family of products. We see this market segment as a significant growth opportunity
going forward –in Latin America and elsewhere.”
TESTM offers passengers superior digital picture and audio sound quality allowing LanChile’s passengers to more comfortably enjoy
their time while flying. The AVOD system provides travelers total flexibility to view or listen to any available program
at any time they choose and operate it like a home video player allowing the passenger to select programming language, start,
stop, pause, fast-forward and rewind.
The system is based on an open architecture software platform that enables airlines to build and customize system applications
to their unique needs. Today, TESTM is flying on nearly 20 commercial airlines worldwide.
