Qantas Selects Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics Head-Up Guidance System for Boeing 737 Fleet
FARNBOROUGH (July 22, 2002) - Qantas Airways has selected the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HGS-4000 Head-up Guidance System (HGS ) for installation
on its fleet of Boeing 737 airplanes. The carrier will retrofit the first 737-800 airplanes in Australia, with completion
expected by the end of 2002.
The installation of the HGS displays will provide Qantas with improved operational performance in all weather conditions,
including reduced approach minima at many of the Type I facilities in its network. The HGS-4000 also offers a display platform
for new technologies such as enhanced vision and surface guidance.
Flight Dynamics' HGS displays critical flight information in the pilot's forward field of view. Airplane flight path and acceleration
symbols appear overlaying the outside scene enhancing situational awareness, improving energy management and increasing touchdown
precision.
Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics of Portland, Ore., is the industry leader in aircraft Head-up Guidance Systems. The company's
patented HGS® technology is certified and operating on business, regional, airline and military transport aircraft, and has
accumulated over nine million flight hours in revenue service.
