Rockwell Collins Selected for Key Networking Role in U.S. Army WIN-T Program
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 03, 2002) - Rockwell Collins (NYSE:COL), a leader in tactical communications, has been selected to fill a key networking role for the
U.S. Army's Warfighter Information Network - Tactical (WIN-T) program. Under contract to General Dynamics C4 Systems, Rockwell
Collins' support will ensure critical messages are prioritized, transferred and received throughout the tactical battle space
network.
WIN-T is a key enabler in creating a seamless battle space network. It will use commercially available products and standards
to provide warfighters the ability to exchange voice, video and data over wired or wireless systems, handling battlefield
communications from the theater level down to individual battalions. By incorporating advanced terrestrial, airborne and space-based
battle command systems, WIN-T will allow the Army to concentrate combat power by means other than massing its forces, which
will make smaller units more effective and more lethal.
Recently, Rockwell Collins successfully demonstrated the transfer and receipt of critical data for CECOM's MOSAIC (Multifunctional
On-the-Move Secure Adaptive Integrated Communications) program. The company will leverage its technology investment from the
MOSAIC program to WIN-T.
"Rockwell Collins is proud to play a role in the development of this revolutionary wireless communications network for the
U.S. Army," said Greg Churchill, executive vice president and COO, Rockwell Collins Government Systems. "Our ability to leverage
previously made investments and successes and carry them over to programs such as WIN-T has made Rockwell Collins a key player
in developing the Army's 21st century tactical battle space environment."
A key component to the Army's tactical battle space network is the recently awarded Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Cluster
1 program, which incorporates the Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW). As a member of the Boeing team, Rockwell Collins is
one of two producers of the industry's first JTRS-compliant software-defined radio communications systems that will provide
interoperability between U.S., joint and allied forces.
"We continue to draw upon our more than 70 years of leadership experience in advanced communication technology," said Bruce
King, vice president and general manager, Rockwell Collins Government Systems Communication Systems. "Our continued emphasis
in providing the military forces with flexibility, reduced total lifecycle costs and lower costs for technology insertion
and supportability have allowed Rockwell Collins to play an increasingly important role on significant Army programs."
These key programs will enhance situational awareness and improve overall mission effectiveness of all ground and Army airborne
operations by providing the U.S. Army with a fast, reliable exchange of information within an expanded communication network.
