China Southern Airlines chooses Rockwell Collins avionics

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (August 20, 2009) - China Southern Airlines selected Rockwell Collins to provide its MultiScan™ weather radar, GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR) and advanced sensors for 10 Airbus A330 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to start March 2010.

"Rockwell Collins has a long history of providing advanced avionics to China Southern Airlines. This latest win continues our tradition of providing commonality across their fleet and excellent customer support," said Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager of Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins. "We commend China Southern for their commitment to operational efficiency, enhanced pilot situational awareness and passenger comfort through their selection of this avionics suite."

The Rockwell Collins MultiScan Hazard Detection System is the first and only radar that analyzes and determines actual weather hazards, not simply atmospheric moisture content. The MultiScan system combines multiple scans into a single, comprehensive view of the weather, creating a fully automatic, hands-free airborne radar system that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters.

The GLU-920 MMR is an integrated unit that provides the aircraft's primary satellite-based position, velocity and time reference and enables precision landing capability. The system is designed to meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet types.

Other products chosen include: ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900 D High Frequency System, CPL 920 D Coupling Unit, VHF-2100 Very High Frequency Transceiver, and GNA-910 Global Navigation Antenna.
