Virgin Blue selects Rockwell Collins' LCoS-based visual system for flight simulator

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 22, 2008) - Virgin Blue has selected Rockwell Collins to provide its EP™-1000CT image generator and Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) projector-based visual system for its Boeing 777 simulator.

"We're thrilled to be working with Virgin Blue on their flight simulator programs," said Ken Schreder, vice president and general manager, Simulation and Training Solutions for Rockwell Collins. "With our EP-1000CT/LCoS visual system, Virgin Blue will benefit from realistic, high resolution imagery on a system that offers lower cost of ownership over the life cycle of the system."

The visual system for the Boeing 777 simulator is the fourth Rockwell Collins' visual system purchased by Virgin Blue over the last year, and the third to include LCoS projector technology.

"Selection of the EP-1000CT LCoS system provides us with flexibility and commonality across the multiple training devices in different locations," said Michael Young, general manager, Aircraft Operations for Virgin Blue. "We were impressed with the aspects, including ease of use and the low-cost of maintenance associated with the technology."

Rockwell Collins' EP-1000CT/LCoS visual system, which has been certified on more than 20 platforms, makes it possible to provide realistic, affordable pilot training by offering a number of world-leading, training-oriented features, including Rockwell Collins' Continuous Texture (CT), which provides a high-resolution, textured backdrop to a worldwide 3D training environment. The LCoS projectors are supplied to Rockwell Collins by JVC.
