Rockwell Collins receives NSA Type 1 certification on the Janus crypto engine
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 21, 2008) - Rockwell Collins has received National Security Agency (NSA) Type 1 certification on its new Janus cryptographic engine.
Janus is a Cryptographic Modernization Initiative (CMI)-compliant device that enables the secure transfer of information by
providing the high-speed encryption and decryption of digital voice and data applications. Given NSA Type 1 certification,
it can now be used in new or replacement Department of Defense (DoD) products and programs requiring the safeguarding of classified
or sensitive information. This next generation programmable crypto will also address the DoD's Crypto Modernization efforts
to support future secure communication, navigation and data link capabilities for the warfighter.

Janus is an embeddable, multi-channel crypto engine that provides advanced capabilities through a Multi-Chip Module (MCM)
architecture, offering a smaller, lighter solution that requires less power, but maintains complete user programmability and
the ability to load multiple cryptographic algorithms. Additionally, Janus is capable of simultaneously processing the full
spectrum of information from unclassified through top secret code word classifications via implementation of its Multiple
Independent Levels of Security (MILS) architecture.
